If you are looking for a timepiece to swim or dive with, you must not suppose that any water-resistant wristwatch can be used for such activities. This is not true, because water resistance of watches differs. Very few waterproof timepieces can be worn in water, all other timepieces withstand just a splash of water.
It is very important to read all markings on the timepiece carefully and to understand what they mean. A wristwatch with marking “water-resistant 3 ATM (30 m)” is not good for swimming or diving. The marking “water-resistant” to 5ATM (50 m)” means that you can swim with the watch on your wrist, but the timepiece is not designed for diving. Only wristwatches that have water-resistance of 10ATM (100 m) and more are used for both swimming and diving.
Many persons guess that imitation watches are highly water-resistant, but this is wrong. Even a Rolex imitation watch that is an exact duplicate of an original Rolex dive timepiece, is not very waterproof. An imitation Rolex wristwatch is only a duplicate of a genuine Rolex wristwatch, but it does not have all the functions of the genuine Rolex watches. Keep in mind, that both fake watches and genuine timepieces cannot be accepted for refund if being damaged by water.
